GenoPro LogoGenoPro - Large Genograms!

This warning message is displayed each time you attempt to save a genogram larger than 65,536 units.  Please don't report this as a bug.  There is nothing GenoPro can do since this is a limitation of the Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI) for backward compatibility with Windows 3.x.

1.  Use Windows NT or Windows 2000.

Windows NT and Windows 2000 are far more powerful than Windows 95 and Windows 98.  If you use Windows NT or Windows 2000, you can have a genogram 1000 times larger than you can get on Windows 95 or Windows 98.  We recommend using Windows NT or Windows 2000 to edit or print large genograms, but want to remind you that you will not be able to share your family tree to others using Windows 95 or Windows 98.

2.  Split your genealogy tree into smaller ones.

This is probably the best approach.  If your genealogy tree is larger than 65,536 units, it's time to split the genealogy tree into smaller ones.  GenoPro has the following toolbar buttons to make it easy to select branches of a genealogy tree.

What you can do is select an individual and/or a family and click on one of the toolbar button to select its ancestors or descendants, copy the selection into the clipboard and paste it to a new document.  Save the document on disk and use the hyperlink field to link the two genograms.  Creating an hyperlink is as easy as entering the file name of the genogram (.gno file) you wish to hyperlink.

3.  Re-arrange your genealogy tree to be narrower / smaller.

Use the toolbar buttons to select a branch and use the mouse to re-arrange the layout to make your genealogy tree smaller.  If your genealogy tree is larger than 65,536 units, there are plenty of empty areas to relocate some branches.  After re-arranging your genealogy tree, do not use the AutoArrange tool.  GenoPro is working to improve its AutoArrange tool to produce better layouts, but in the meantime, you will have to continue doing the layout manually.

Check this checkbox if you don't want to see this message.  Of course, hiding the message does not make the genogram smaller, but it is redundant to always display this message once you fully understand it.
