GenoPro LogoGenoPro AutoArrange

GenoPro wrote the AutoArrange routine to import Gedcom files, but noticed many are using the AutoArrange to layout their genealogy tree.  This routine took several months to write, debug and test, yet generated more emails than all the other features combined. About 95% of all the genealogy trees GenoPro received by email were AutoArranged.

The AutoArrange does a very rudimentary layout and cannot do all the possible combinations.  The AutoArrange often produces overlapping trees and long horizontal lines.  GenoPro is working improving the AutoArrange by adding Artificial Intelligence to generate better layouts and detect errors found in some genealogy trees.

If you feel the AutoArrange needs to handle a special case of your family tree, you are welcome to send your .gno file to . GenoPro will keep all the genealogy trees and will test them on the improved AutoArrange prior releasing version 2.0.

Frequently Asked Questions about the AutoArrange

Q: I started to use GenoPro with the AutoArrange and it was great.  My family tree started to grow and then I get overlapping when I click on the AutoArrange button.
A: You have do the layout manually using your mouse.  If you get overlapping, you can move the mouse over an individual or marriage and wait a few seconds.  GenoPro will display a datatip with the name of the individual and the number of children.

Q: Can GenoPro AutoArrange a branch of the tree?
A: Not in this current version.  Many users requested this feature by email and/or on the GenoPro Wish List.  This feature is no as easy to implement as the idea of keeping some individual locked and arranging the other individuals around them.  Artificial Intelligence is needed to do such a job.

Tip When you use the AutoArrange, remember you can always use the Undo button.  If you don't like the generated layout, simply click on the Undo button and do the layout manually.
